Why We Built This Directory
Finding the right care home for a loved one is one of the most important — and often most stressful — decisions a family will ever make. Yet for too long, families have had to rely on outdated information, confusing CQC reports, and word of mouth to navigate their options.
Complete Healthcare UK was founded in 2019 to change that. We set out to build a single, trusted destination where families could search for care homes by location, care type, and CQC rating — and read genuine reviews from other families who had been through the same experience.
Today, our directory lists over 8,400 CQC-registered care homes and 2,100 vetted suppliers across the UK. We're proud to be independent, impartial, and entirely focused on helping families and care professionals make better decisions.

Regulation & Oversight
Who Regulates Health and Social Care
Health and social care in the UK is regulated by a number of independent bodies across England, Scotland and Wales. Understanding who regulates what can help families and providers know where to turn when standards are not being met.
Regulators in England
Care Quality Commission (CQC)
The CQC is the independent regulator for the quality and safety of care in England. It regulates providers of healthcare services (including hospitals, clinics, GP practices and dental practices), providers of social care services for adults in care homes and in people's own homes, and providers of services for people whose rights are restricted under the Mental Health Act. The CQC publishes ratings to help people choose care and has wide enforcement powers including prosecution and the ability to impose penalties under the Health and Social Care Act 2008.
Regulators in Scotland
Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS)
HIS focuses on reducing healthcare associated infection risk, improving care of elderly patients, and regulating independent healthcare services. It carries out announced and unannounced inspections in acute NHS hospitals in Scotland.
Care Inspectorate
The Care Inspectorate (formally SCSWIS) inspects, regulates and supports improvement of social care, social work and child protection services in Scotland, providing public assurance on service quality.
Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland (MWC)
The MWC promotes the welfare of individuals with mental illness, learning disability or related conditions. It investigates cases of potential ill-treatment or deficiency in care and can make and follow up recommendations.
Regulators in Wales
Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW)
CIW regulates social care, early years services and Local Authority care support services in Wales. Its work includes registration, inspection, responding to concerns, compliance support and enforcement.
Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW)
HIW reviews and inspects NHS and independent healthcare organisations in Wales against published standards, policies and regulations. It also registers independent services and has powers to take enforcement action.
UK-Wide Regulators
Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA)
The MHRA is responsible for ensuring that medicines and medical devices work and are acceptably safe. As the UK Competent Authority, it regulates devices throughout the UK and issues Medical Devices Alerts (MDAs). It also oversees blood and blood products, working with UK blood services and healthcare providers to improve blood quality and safety.

In addition to sector regulators, professional bodies ensure that proper standards are maintained by individual health and social care professionals. Professionals must register with the appropriate body to practise in the UK. Key bodies include:

How We Maintain Quality
Editorial Guidelines
Our editorial guidelines exist to protect families and ensure every listing on our directory meets a minimum standard of quality and accuracy. All providers agree to these guidelines when submitting a listing.
CQC Registration Required
All care homes listed must be registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). We verify registration status before approving any listing.
Accurate Information
Providers are responsible for keeping their listing information accurate and up to date. Misleading or inaccurate listings will be removed.
No "Inadequate" Ratings
Care homes currently rated "Inadequate" by the CQC are not eligible for listing. Homes rated "Requires Improvement" may be listed with a clear disclosure.
Genuine Reviews Only
All family reviews are moderated. We do not allow fake, incentivised, or defamatory reviews. Providers may not submit reviews for their own homes.
Supplier Vetting
Suppliers in our B2B directory must demonstrate relevant experience in the care sector. We reserve the right to remove listings that receive sustained negative feedback.
Right to Remove
We reserve the right to remove any listing that breaches our guidelines, receives serious complaints, or is subject to regulatory action.
